4. presentation - Jesus’ invitation to His living space

Sychar: the Samaritans were an ethnic group living in Israel. They got their name from Samaria (after Samaria), the capital of the northern kingdom. In 722 BC, after the Assyrians conquered Israel and haled the distinguished residents to captivity, the Assyrian kings located residents to Samaria from the eastern part of the kingdom.

Jericho (‘the town of the moon’) is the oldest town in the valley of the Jordan. Even Josephus Flavius identified it with the approximately 350 meters long, 150 meters wide oval-shaped hill that is known today as Tell-esz-Szultan.

Jesus spent the greater part of His three-and-a-half-year-long public ministry working among the poor and disdained of the people. They are the protagonists of these two towns, Jericho and Sychar. Jesus needed Zacchaeus and the Samaritan woman as well! But just as now, man had the decision then like wise, if we will invite Him into our lives, if we will share with Him the joys and troubles of everyday life. He will not use force, He respects our free choice…
